No — this is the nature of natural stone. Travertine is formed with natural pores and voids throughout its structure, and marble can have fine mineral inclusions and surface variations. These are geological characteristics, not manufacturing defects. Each piece is cut from natural stone blocks, and the specific pattern of pores, fine fissures, speckles, and veins will differ between every piece. What you are seeing is the evidence that you have a genuine natural material object. How do I clean a travertine or marble tray? Wipe the tray with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon-based products), abrasive pads, or bleach on natural stone — these can etch and permanently damage the surface.
